Sow seeds indoors at any time of the year, provided you can supply a consistent heat source and bright light.

Fill a shallow tray with a highly porous cactus and succulent potting mix. Moisten the soil lightly before sowing.

Scatter the microscopic seeds evenly across the surface. Do not cover the seeds with soil, as they need direct light to break dormancy.

Enclose the entire seed tray inside a clear plastic bag or cover it with a plastic dome to retain moisture.

Keep the tray in a warm room between 21°C and 24°C (70°F to 75°F). Use a seedling heat mat if your room is cool.

Seeds typically germinate within 10 to 21 days. Remove the plastic cover immediately upon sprouting and place them under bright grow lights.
