Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your last expected spring frost, or sow them directly into the garden bed in spring after all frost danger passes.

While not strictly required, placing seeds in a damp paper towel inside a sealed bag in the fridge for 2 to 3 weeks before planting increases germination speed and uniformity.

Plant seeds 1/8 inch deep in a lightweight, well-draining seed-starting mix. Lightly press them into the soil.
