Start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before your last spring frost, or sow them directly in the garden after the danger of frost has passed.
Surface-sow the seeds onto moist seed-starting mix and press them gently into the soil. Do not cover the seeds, as they require direct light to germinate.
Keep the soil consistently damp but not soggy. Maintain a room temperature between 21°C and 24°C (70°F to 75°F).
Sprouts will emerge quickly, typically within 7 to 14 days. Move them under bright lights or to a sunny window immediately.
Plant seedlings outdoors after the final spring frost. Space individual plants 12 to 18 inches apart to give them room to spread.
