Start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before your final spring frost.
Fill seed trays with a lightweight, pre-moistened potting mix.
Surface-sow the seeds and press them very lightly into the soil. Barely cover them with grit, as they require direct light to germinate.
Cover the tray with a clear plastic dome to lock in high humidity. Keep the environment at 16°C to 21°C (60°F to 70°F). Mist the topsoil gently so it remains damp but not muddy.
Thin to one plant per cell. Harden them off and plant outdoors after all frost danger has passed. Space individual seedlings 12 to 15 inches apart.
